Butchery contest showcases cutting edge talent

Some of the best butchers from across the Midlands will be battling it out in a Farm Shop Butchery and Display Competition at this year's West Mid Show.

Sponsored and organised by EBLEX, which acts to help the English beef and lamb industry boost its competitiveness and promote its products, there will be three prizes up for grabs: best butchery, best display and overall champion.
Each butcher will be provided with one thick flank of beef and one front of lamb from which they must create eight different cuts for display and three burgers.
"There are some great farm shop butchers out there an we are testing not just the butcher's skill at cutting and preparing the meat but also how attractively they display it for the customer," said Clive Brown, Western Region Manager for EBLEX.
"Watching experts at work helps demonstrate just how versatile these cuts can be and we are looking forward to a great contest."
The West Mid Show runs over the weekend of June 27 and 28 at The West Mid Showground, in Shrewsbury.
Any Farm Shop butcher wishing to enter the competition should contact Jenny at the West Mid Show office on 01743 289831 for an entry form, or log on to www.westmidshow.co.uk All entries must be received by June 12.
